About Alice Goldstein
Alice Goldstein was born in 1931 in Germany, where she lived until 1939. Her family was able to emigrate to the United States in late August of 1939, arriving three days before Germany's invasion of Poland on September 1st. Alice tells of life in Germany as a Jewish child and her views on contemporary issues involving the Holocaust, such as how the world can continue to preserve the memories of the Holocaust as time goes on and the number of survivors lessens.

"My parents went from very successful middle-class people, very valued in their community, to being outcasts, to being strangers in a country where they didn’t speak the language. And then, they pulled themselves up and they became very assimilated, very integrated into the community, and made good lives for themselves and were always optimistic. I think that that trajectory is something that is really important to know that that’s possible and that the human spirit can do this and can overcome the kind of obstacles that were a part of living in Nazi Germany."
