About Lilliane's Parents

Lilliane's mother Anca was born in Kraków, Poland in 1918, and survived Auschwitz with the help of a few "miracles" and her own perseverance. Janek, Lilliane's father, was a Polish soldier who survived the Gulag as a prisoner of war. The two Holocaust survivors met after the war and eventually settled in Connecticut in 1952. Lilliane tells of her parents' survival and what she has taken away from their experiences and from telling their stories.

"Don’t judge anybody until you know them, and it’s not hard to show love. Go out of your way to be kind and tolerant."

-Lilliane, on what her parents would preach
